Elaine Smith – Leader, Seaham

Hello, I’m Elaine. I’m a yoga teacher and founder of Hotpod Yoga Sunderland. I teach a Vinyasa style of yoga, linking movement to the breath. I’m passionate about sharing the positive impact yoga can offer, helping students to build a stronger, more flexible body, as well as a space to help quieten the mind. I’m also a keen sea swimmer.

After a couple of swims in the summer of 2018, I got into it in April 2019, starting in a wetsuit, convinced it was too cold without. By the summer I’d ditched the wetsuit and swam all through the winter. I’m a real sucker for a pretty sunrise, I think that’s one of my main motivators to get up and to head down to the beach, I always feel so much better afterward. I love to teach yoga on the beach too, which I’ve done for the past two summers and swimming afterward is the perfect way to start the day. I love how so many more people are embracing cold water therapy and are seeing the health benefits.

Starting casually in Summer 2018, I started to take it seriously in April 2019, in a wet suit, convinced it was too cold without. By the summer I’d ditched the wetsuit and swam all through the winter. I’m a sucker for a pretty sunrise, that’s one of my motivators to get up and head to the beach. I love how many more people are embracing cold water therapy and are really seeing the health benefits.
